Tour information
The quiet Green Round Trip Trail, which runs through the peaceful Farkas-völgy (Wolf Valley), invites you to a lovely forest adventure! The starting point of the tour is the final station of the Children’s Railway at Széchenyihegy, which can be easily reached by a pleasant 45-minute train ride from Hűvösvölgy, or you can also arrive from Városmajor by taking the cogwheel train that overcomes a 315-metre elevation difference. After getting off the train, you need to walk along the tracks to reach the Normafa stop, then turn left onto the forest road, and descend into the beautiful valley. When you see the green triangle, turn left and head towards the uphill path leading to Széchenyi Hill. However, you’ll soon have a chance to take a rest at the Farkasvölgyi-víznyelő (Wolf Valley Sinkhole). Afterwards, you need to continue walking uphill and soon you will walk past the charming Úti Madonna Chapel, from where you continue your journey on the serpentine road along the side of Széchenyi Hill. Leaving the forest, flowery meadows follow one another, offering a beautiful panorama to hikers. Continuing along the green round trip, you will soon return to your starting point through the meadows. Since you need to walk uphill all the way from the lowest part of Wolf Valley, the hike, which can be completed in just under an hour, has a moderate level of difficulty.

Attractions
Children’s Railway
The Budapest Children’s Railway is unique not only because it has been connecting the most beautiful forest hiking spots of Budapest for 75 years, but also because it is operated by children aged 10-14 who manage the railway traffic and handle ticket sales and inspections. The railway that operates between Hűvösvölgy and Széchenyi Hill is surrounded by numerous attractions that invite nature enthusiasts, such as the Elizabeth Lookout Tower on János Hill.

Wolf Valley sinkhole
The only sinkhole not only in Budapest, but in the entire Buda Hills, is located in Wolf Valley, which separates Széchenyi Hill and Csillebérc. The natural geological formation is 6 metres deep and, as it is not fully enclosed, you should approach it with extreme caution. You can reach this special attraction by leaving the green triangle hiking trail,
Normafa
Normafa, the highest point of Svábhegy, is undoubtedly Budapest’s number one resting and hiking spot, visited by nature enthusiasts for centuries. If you’d like to leave the hustle and bustle of the city behind, explore the exciting hiking trails, sports facilities, and breathtaking natural treasures of the huge green park, and, of course, don’t miss out on the legendary Normafa strudel!
+ Programme tip
Erzsébet Lookout Tower
Budapest’s most famous lookout tower is on János Hill, reaching 528 metres above the city, making it the highest point of the capital for over 110 years. It was named after Queen Elizabeth, better known as Sissy, who loved to admire the detailed landscape below from here. It’s worth visiting this attraction with a combined trip that includes a ride on the chairlift from the direction of Normafa.

Budakeszi Wildlife Park
The Budakeszi Wildlife Park is located on the outskirts of Budapest, in the Budakeszi Valley. It can be reached by taking the 22 bus family from Szépjuhászné railway station. Covering over three hundred hectares within enclosed grounds, the park showcases the flora and fauna of the forests surrounding Buda, as well as species native to other parts of Hungary and Europe. The Budakeszi Wildlife Park was opened in 1979 on the occasion of the International Year of Children.

Budakeszi Adventure Park
Situated within the premises of the Budakeszi Wildlife Park, the adventure park offers six different levels of difficulty across its courses, inviting thrill-seekers who enjoy heights and excitement into its beautiful forest setting.
Budakeszi Arboretum
From Friday to Sunday, the Budakeszi Arboretum welcomes nature enthusiasts. It’s worth visiting not only for leisurely forest walks but also for its diverse range of organized programmes. Observe the park’s rich biodiversity while enjoying a peaceful, green environment not far from the city. At the forest pond, you can encounter pond turtles, and in the birdhouse, you’ll have the chance to see doves and quail.
Zugliget Chairlift
Since 1970, the Zugligeti Chairlift has been transporting passengers to János Hill, overcoming a 262-metre elevation difference. One of the most popular attractions in the capital city, it operates year-round, every day of the week (except for maintenance days). During its 2600-metre journey, you can enjoy a stunning panoramic view of the city, especially when travelling downhill.
Cardio Trail
The Szent Ferenc Hospital has created a Cardio Path at Normafa, specifically designed for individuals with cardiovascular diseases, high blood pressure, and diabetes, although of course, anyone in the family can join in for some healthy exercise! The trail is marked with the shape of a heart, and you can choose from three hiking trails of varying difficulty, and occasionally join guided tours led by health professionals.
Normafa Park Visitor Centre
At the beginning of your hike in Normafa, it’s worth stopping by the Normafa Park Visitor Centre, located near the parking area and bus stop. Here, you can find an information desk where the staff will help you navigate through the trails and various activities available in Normafa. In addition, you can explore the sports history exhibition at the visitor centre and even rent a locker or luggage storage if needed.
